Tamiru brings more than two decades of experience spanning banking, financial services, technology, and portfolio management across Ethiopia and the United States. His career is defined by translating strategic priorities into operational systems and digital solutions.
In the U.S., he gained extensive experience within a Fortune 500 environment, mastering product management, regulatory compliance, and agile development. Returning to Ethiopia, he served in executive and advisory roles in Venture Capital and/or Private Equity and latest role at Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH) - the nation's Sovereign Wealth Fund - gaining unique insights into national economic reform and enterprise modernization.
Today, as Founder and CEO of Pride AI and Business Solutions, he leads a firm dedicated to institution building through governance, growth, and innovation.
From humble Ethiopian roots through the American Dream and its breaking point — to a purposeful return and the birth of Pride AI and Business Solutions.
Born in Addis Ababa as the 9th of 11 children to teacher parents — named "Tamiru" (Miracle). Shaped by a disciplined family, strong work ethic, and early banking career at Dashen and Hibret Banks. Rose from accountant to branch manager in Shashemene and Harar, learning compassion, integrity, and the limits of tribal politics in business.
Left Ethiopia at the peak of my banking career to pursue an MBA in the United States, driven by the promise of the American Dream. Engaged, with a child on the way, I boarded the plane full of ambition but unaware of the trials ahead.
Arrived during the global financial crisis. Studied at Maharishi University in rural Iowa while facing severe financial hardship, culture shock, and isolation. Job hunting became a full-time struggle. Learned that in America, "USA" sometimes meant "U Start Again."
A compassionate recruiter, Michael Gioia at Accountemps, believed in me when few others would. He restored my confidence and opened the door to my first temporary roles. One person’s kindness became the turning point that allowed me to rebuild.
Moved from temp roles to a full-time position in regulatory filing and disclosure management in Rockville, MD. After acquisition by a Fortune 500 company, I climbed into supervisory and product management roles, supporting global users and contributing to major capital market filings. Worked intense hours, gained deep expertise in U.S. regulatory systems, and experienced both professional growth and growing internal tensions.
Caught in post-acquisition politics, role confusion, and a silent leadership battle, my mental and physical health collapsed. The Friday afternoon conference call, the 911 call, involuntary hospitalization, and subsequent family tragedies marked the lowest point of my life. What looked like success on paper had quietly broken my soul.
Walked away from corporate America and returned to Ethiopia with my family. Faced societal expectations, stigma around returning, and the heavy process of healing. My wife’s extraordinary support and time with family became the bedrock of my recovery.
Attempted to launch a business process outsourcing venture inspired by offshore models I had seen. Faced reality checks and used the experience as a strategic pause. Began the deliberate search for closure while rebuilding my professional life.
Rejoined the corporate world at a leading private equity and impact investment firm (Renew Capital). Deepened expertise in finance, founder support, governance, and private sector development while mentoring finance teams, especially women leaders.
Appointed to a senior portfolio leadership role at Ethiopia’s first Sovereign Wealth Fund / Public Holding Company (Ethiopian Investment Holdings). Oversaw more than 30 state-owned enterprises, led IPO readiness (including Ethio Telecom), strengthened governance frameworks, and engaged with global institutions like the IMF and World Bank. Rose to Chief Portfolio Officer.
Resigned from the Sovereign Wealth Fund on Valentine’s Day to fully dedicate myself to building Pride AI and Business Solutions - a venture at the intersection of financial advisory, business transformation, and responsible AI. Named in honor of my late brother Dr. Solomon Belayneh and his Pride Clinic, it carries forward a legacy of integrity, compassion, and purposeful growth.
